Ballyliffin is ideally located for a variety of activities, both in the immediate locality and in the wider peninsula.

The following will give you an idea of what the area has to offer, though the list is by no means exhaustive!

Golf:  We are five minutes from Ballyliffin Golf course, ranked among the top 100 golf courses of the UK and Ireland. The course has two 18-hole courses and is situated by the dunes along Pollen Strand.  www.ballyliffingolfclub.com

The hostel is within easy driving distance of North West Golf course in Buncrana and Greencastle Golf course.

Water Sports: The local beach, Pollen Bay, is an ideal location for surfing, body-boarding and canoe surfing. www.inishowensurfschool.com

Walking and Hiking: There are walking routes in the nearby hills to suit all levels of fitness – Bulbin, Rachtin and Binion hills, Butler’s Glen, Leenan Hill, Dunaff Hill and Cnoc Aughrim to name just a few. Local beaches offer great walks and Pollen Bay has a walkway on the dunes along its length and an eco-friendly childrens’ play area. Horse Riding: We are ten minutes from Tullagh and Malin stables, which offer horse riding, often on the beach, for children and adults. www.tullaghbayequestrian.ie, for malin stables – information and contacts on-line.

Cycling: Donegal is excellent cycling terrain, never a dull moment! Bikes can be hired in Ballyliffin or in the nearby (6 km) town of Carndonagh. The hostel can propose a variety of routes, otherwise check out www.cycleinishowen.com
